About me

Susan Scheps, independent educational consultant and owner of CAP Advisory.

I have always been passionate about learning and consider myself a life-long student. As a first generation college student, I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. I continued my education at Columbia University where I earned a master’s degree and Shenandoah University where I received my clinical doctorate. Seeking to formalize my education in college counseling, I enrolled in the UCLA Extension Program and earned my certificate with distinction in college counseling.

Staying current in the ever-changing college admissions landscape is critical to providing the most accurate information to students and families. To this end, I continue my professional development participating in admissions webinars and visiting dozens of colleges every year. I am a WOW Certified Essay Coach, an associate member of IECA, and a member of both PACAC and NJACAC.

Both my daughter and my son have just graduated from college, and their paths were extremely different. Having this personal connection to the variations in the college admissions process allows me to recognize the unique qualities of each student and how these will shape their particular path. Paying utmost attention to the individual student and working together to find their best college fit is my goal.

My passion for learning, together with a passion to help students has led to the formation of CAP Advisory. Together, we will take a personalized approach to the college admissions process and I will be with you every step of the way. I look forward to working with you! ~ Sue

By fostering self-awareness, students are empowered to make informed decisions that align with their natural abilities and innate talents. During their time with CAP Advisory, students will practice self-reliance, advocating for themselves, and self-efficacy, enabling them to confidently take ownership of their futures. Armed with essential life skills such as resourcefulness, problem solving prowess, and self-direction, students will be poised for success not only in college but in life.

I intentionally keep my practice small so I can focus on providing the most personalized experience to my students and families. I am accessible and responsive, and your student will always be my top priority. I adhere to the ethical guidelines of good practice as outlined by IECA& NACAC.
